What we do

Four lines of action, one territory

Every project starts from a real conversation with the rural communities and schools of Norte de Santander — never from what we assume they need, but from something we build together.

Line of action

Education & Culture

We strengthen the rural classroom with teacher support, infrastructure improvements, and cultural activities that open up possibilities beyond the classroom — from environmental education about the páramo to volunteering that reaches the most remote villages.

Guardians of the Páramo and the Seeds

Who it's for: all of our partner schools.

Main goal: for children and their communities to learn to care for the páramo and its water sources by planting native seeds, so environmental knowledge is created and spreads across the territory.

Infrastructure Improvement

Who it's for: partner Rural Education Centers (CER) in Cácota and Pamplona.

Main goal: to transform infrastructure into dignified spaces, where rural children can learn the way they deserve to.

Humanitos Days

Who it's for: all of our communities across our 7 partner schools.

Main goal: to bring the community together through cultural, recreational, and team-building activities that strengthen their sense of belonging. It's a space for fun that makes room for theater, hairstyling, and group activities, where we turn into a traveling school-supply stand so every child can pick their own supplies — something not everyone gets to do — and where donated clothing reaches whoever can make the best use of it.

Volunteering

Who it's for: local and international professionals and volunteers.

Main goal: to contribute time, knowledge, and experience to direct work with rural communities. But it's also a life experience: we tend to think we're going to give, and in reality, volunteering with Humanitos means receiving — it means healing, it means enjoying the ecosystem. We get involved in activities in every municipality, and through art, pottery, meditation, or hikes through rural areas, we connect more deeply with humanity.

Health & Wellbeing

We bring care directly to rural villages, so health doesn't depend on hours of travel to town — wellness days with alternative and complementary medicine, and vision care for rural children and families.

Wellness Days — rural health and alternative medicine

Who it's for: all of our communities across our partner schools.

Main goal: to bring health care and alternative and complementary medicine directly to rural villages, so distance is never a barrier to care. We work with integrative medicine — nutrition and its impact on health, medicinal herbs — and also mental health, an area not often addressed for rural communities, among others.

Humanitos Vision

Who it's for: all interested communities across our partner schools.

Main goal: to detect and correct vision problems through optometry days, providing subsidized glasses based on individual needs. In 2026 we've already reached CER La Fenicia, La Laguna campus, and Labateca.

Technology

We bring digital tools and artificial intelligence closer to rural Colombia, in partnership with universities — from Tecnohumanitos' technology development to AI training for teachers.

Tecnohumanitos

Who it's for: university students and partner rural communities.

Main goal: to develop technology applied to the needs of rural Colombia, currently in partnership with Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.

AI for Rural Colombia

Who it's for: Humanitos teachers, interested community members, and ISER students.

Main goal: to provide training in artificial intelligence applied to rural education, so technology reaches rural areas first.

Intercultural Connection

We connect our rural children with the world through real stories of people with valuable, inspiring paths who show what's possible to build for the future.

Conexión Project

Who it's for: children and youth from our partner rural communities.

Main goal: interviews with people whose paths inspire our rural children to imagine and build their own future. Showing different professions matters because in the countryside, it's hard to dream about what you've never seen — every story opens up a possibility that wasn't on the table before.

We support early-stage entrepreneurs and businesses in Norte de Santander who want to make the digital leap. We don't solve everything for them: we walk alongside them until they can show and sell their work on their own.
